Better at Home is a program that helps seniors/elders to continue living in their own homes longer and stay connected in the community by providing a range of basic, non-medical home support services. Our services are provided to eligible seniors/elders on a sliding fee scale and some services may be free.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Residents living on Quadra Island who are 55 years of age or older, and who meet the intent of the program, can access Better at Home Services. Please contact Program Coordinator Kristene Perron to inquire or register:
IS THERE A COST?
Friendly Visiting is a free service and Transportation (to medical appointments) is currently free. All other services are provided on a sliding scale fee based on annual income. Some clients will be able to afford the full cost of the service while others will receive a subsidy from 20% - 100%.
WHAT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED?
Quadra Island Better at Home currently offers six services:
All Quadra Island Better at Home services have been designed with COVID health and safety protocols in place. Service providers and clients are expected to follow these guidelines at all times and services will adapt to follow changes in Provincial Health Orders and WorkSafe guidelines.
Our Light Housekeeping service is provided by a trained, qualified, and fully insured employee. If you could use a little help around the house, our friendly housekeeper will collaborate with you to create a plan and set up a regular schedule.
The Quadra Island Better at Home Program offers transportation to medical appointments and lab work on Quadra Island and to Campbell River at no cost. Our team of volunteer drivers will follow all COVID guidelines for each trip.
Our volunteer drivers can deliver groceries and prescription medication to your home. (Meal delivery is available through Quadra Circle).
MINOR HOME REPAIRS
Need a broken step fixed? A lightbulb changed that’s too high to reach? A safety bar installed in your shower? We offer minor home repairs for all seniors registered in the Better at Home program.
LIGHT YARD WORK
This seasonal service will help you keep your yard clean and safe. Mowing, raking, weeding, and moving firewood are all part of the Light Yard Work service.
When it snows, our volunteers or subcontractors will help keep your walkways and driveway clear and safe.
This free service is a good way to stay connected and safe. During the pandemic, seniors can receive regular check-ins online or by phone—to make sure you’re safe or just to chat!
HOW TO VOLUNTEER
We are currently seeking volunteers for all our services! Please contact the Program Coordinator, Kristene Perron for more information.
